Here is my piece for the 2014 Edition of The Werewolf Calendar. NOTE: Sales are still open for a very limited time! – werewolfcalendar.com/purchase/ Please see the site for all the fantastic work by the other artists this year.
To depict my assigned caption, I wanted to show an up-close confrontation between two werewolves (I'll call them Alpha and Beta), complete with bristling fur and fangs. I paid close attention to the werewolves' body language to tell a bit more of the story; at first, I had the rivals more evenly matched, both with open-mouthed snarls and ears forward in aggression. I changed the stance of the Beta (back) wolf to look more immediately confrontational, and altered the battle-scarred Alpha (front) werewolf's ears and mouth to appear more uncertain. Will the win go to the younger, stronger wolf, or the older, more experienced one?
Drawn first in mechanical pencil, then scanned in and mouse-colored in Photoshop CS5, some textures from my collection added.
I was pleased to draw some snarly werewolves for my month.
